About the role
Members of the District Consents Panel play an important role in providing guidance and oversight for property-related consents projects across the District. This role focuses not only on maintenance of buildings, but also on their strategic use to further the mission of the church. The Panel offers insight to circuit and church trustees, helping them manage their property projects effectively for good maintenance, community engagement and worship. Some experience in church property stewardship or governance would be beneficial, along with a desire for strategic use of property in mission and service for church purposes. The panel member will support the District Property Officer in evaluating, approving, and, where necessary, challenging, property projects to ensure alignment with both practical and spiritual goals.Access to email and internet are fundamental to carrying out the work. Projects are usually considered by email using access to the Methodist Online Suite, and the ability to respond within a week is desirable, allowing for holidays of course.
You would work with the other Panel members by email in agreeing or challenging property projects, ensuring they balance the technical requirements of property management with the church's mission.
Panel members meet online usually in February each year to review property projects and the Panel’s work in general
his is a voluntary position, by mutual agreement, with an initial term of six years, with the option to extend.
Typical projects to be considered might be: a circuit’s request to let out a spare manse with a tenancy agreement; a church’s plan to refurbish the chapel kitchen to improve the work of a lunch club or after-school club; a church’s need to re-roof the chapel following the quinquennial inspection.
Position: Member of the District Consents Panel
Responsible to: District Chair, usually through the District Property Officer
Location: Home-based, by email usually, and by online meeting once a year.To increase the diversity of this team, we are particularly looking for female members.
